$20m in fake currency seized in Ajman

AJMAN – A three-member gang was arrested in an undercover operation in Ajman and police were able to seize $20 million in fake currency.

It is believed to be the largest haul of fake bills in Ajman, according to the Criminal Investigation Department.

Police said that the suspects—two Arabs and a Canadian—were put on surveillance after police received a tip-off about the counterfeit money.

Police then sent an undercover police officer posing as a buyer for the fake bills, said Colonel Abdullah Saif Al Matroushi, Director of the Criminal Investigation Department.

The undercover policeman told the gang he would give them 8 million for the fake notes. The trio was arrested when they showed up to meet the undercover policeman. DAJ/Expat Media
