DUBAI – Conflicting reports have surfaced in Dubai regarding the International Dwarf Fashion Show that was purportedly happening as part of Arab Fashion Week (AFW) during the weekend.
One report quoted a press release from the organisers, saying that the fashion show would feature “15 little glamorous fashionistas” on the catwalk on May 20.
However, in another media interview, Arab Fashion Week organisers denied that the dwarf fashion show is part of its schedule of events.
Controversy first arose after posters of the show circulated on social media appeared to link it to Arab Fashion Week. Readers were also directed to the website arabworldfashionweek.org that listed the dwarf fashion show in Saturday’s lineup. The official website of Arab Fashion Week, arabfashionweek.org, does not include International Dwarf Fashion Show among its lineup of events.
On its Facebook and Twitter accounts, organisers of the dwarf fashion show said that the event is taking place on May 20 at Shangri-La Hotel along Dubai’s Sheikh Zayed Road.
Expat Media also spoke with Jessica Bauman, Director of Communication of the International Dwarf Fashion Show, who confirmed that the event will be taking place at the hotel’s ballroom in Dubai on that day.
However, when Expat Media called up Shangri-La Hotel on Friday (May 19), a customer service representative denied that the dwarf fashion show will be taking place at the hotel on Saturday.
