LOS ANGELES – While it is not yet confirmed if Filipino actress Kris Aquino will be in the cast of the movie adaption of Kevin Kwan’s bestselling novel “Crazy Rich Asians”, Warner Bros. has announced that a Filipino-American comedian will play a role in the Hollywood movie.
Nico Santos, who was born and raised in the Philippines then immigrated to the US, is starring in “Crazy Rich Asians” which has started filming in Malaysia and Singapore.
Santos is a fixture in the comedy scene in the US and currently appears in the comedy series “Superstore”.
He wrote scripts for “Fashion Police” of E! Network and guested in TV shows like “2 Broke Girls” , “Ground Floor” and part of the panel in “Chelsea Lately” hosted by Chelsea Handler.
“Crazy Rich Asians” stars Henry Golding, Mchelle Yeoh, Constance Wu, Gemma Chan, Awkafina and Keon Jeong. The movie is about about an old-wealth Singaporean family, its matriarch Eleanor Young (Yeoh), and its scion – the Ivy-League-educated Nick Young (Golding), who flies home to Singapore for a friend’s wedding with his New Yorker girlfriend (Wu) in tow.
Previous reports said Aquino will star in the movie and she flew to the US last month to sign a contract to star in “Crazy Rich Asians” but when the movie’s cast was officially announced, Aquino’s name wasn’t in the roster.
There has been no explanation from Aquino or her camp.
In a recent press launch of a product that Aquino endorses, she was mum about her participation in “Crazy Rich Asians”. GAC/Expat Media
